Fear and Loathing of Project Management

Timeslot:
Friday, 2:15pm - 3:15pm
Track:
Drupal Community
Experience Level:
Beginner

Do you respect project management? Do you roll your eyes at the thought of “assigning timing” to your latest site module? If the answer is yes, no, or meh, then this session is for you. In this session, we will discuss why both devops and project management are essential, and how collaboration makes a team agile vs. lateral in an interactive world. No job can be done without the other, but what happens when there is a technical misunderstanding between the developer and the project manager?

We think that project management exists to support and protect the developer, in addition to supporting the client. Devops can, in fact, return the favor! While variables such as our own domain expertise and skill sets make us successful in our specific roles, we can pinpoint how to use these strengths to make one another successful when situations get sticky.

This session is open to all members of the Drupal Community that are interested in hearing about the inner workings of an organization that prides themselves on running things efficiently and effectively. Please come join for some tips, or just to vent. We can offer good therapy to those frustrated with “project management” and all of its existence as well as create a dialogue of shared experiences.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes:

How to better manage your projects as devops
How to communicate your needs to your project manager
Understanding transformative vs. transactional processes
How to educate and engage your project manager and vice versa
